How to get more Google reviews as a tradesperson

By Charlie, electrician and founder of Signwrite · November 2026

Most happy customers would leave you a review. They just don't think of it, or can't find where to do it. The trick is making it take ten seconds, at the moment they're happiest.

1. Get your review link

In your Google Business Profile, find the option to ask for reviews. Google gives you a short link that opens the review box straight away. Save it on your phone so it's ready to send.

2. Ask at the right time

The best moment is when you finish the job and the customer is pleased: the lights are on, the leak's fixed, the patio's done. Ask in person, then send the link by text or WhatsApp before you leave the driveway.

3. Make it easy

  • Send a short message: "Thanks again. If you have a minute, a quick review really helps a small business like mine:" followed by the link.
  • Put a QR code on your invoices, business cards or van, so customers can scan it.
  • Send one friendly reminder a few days later if they haven't done it. Don't keep chasing.

4. Reply to every review

Thank people by name for good reviews. For a bad one, reply calmly and offer to sort it out. Future customers read the replies, and a fair response to a complaint can win you more trust than another five-star review.

What not to do

  • Don't offer discounts or gifts in return for reviews. It's against Google's rules, and reviews can be removed.
  • Don't write reviews yourself or ask family to post fake ones.
  • Don't send the link to everyone at once. A steady flow looks more natural than twenty in a day.

Signwrite's review bundle is €79: printed QR review cards to hand out, and a van sticker that takes customers straight to your review page.
